Portrait of William Shakespeare presently hanging in the Folger Shakespeare Library. Proponents of the Oxfordian theory of Shakespearian authorship say that this picture is actually a slightly modified image of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford. That an image of Oxford would be altered to appear as the traditional image of Shakespeare is taken as evidence of their being the same man.
