Ashton upon Mersey

Ashton upon Mersey is a district of Sale in the metropolitan borough of Trafford, Greater Manchester, England.

Locally Ashton upon Mersey is known as "The village". The village is vibrant. In the evening it can be very busy making parking difficult. It has three Indian takeaways, one Chinese and a Pizza outlet. There are two very popular pubs - The Old Plough (usually referred to as The Plough) and the Buck. There are two mini-markets - the Co-op and Tesco Extra. There are also two charity shops - Sue Ryder and Age Concern and a number of specialist retailers. Devereux the "bike shop" is quite legendary.

Historically in Cheshire, it became an urban district in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894. In 1930 it was added to Sale Urban District. [1] [2]
