Ashley Grimes

Augustine Ashley Grimes (born Dublin, August 2, 1957), commonly referred to as Ashley Grimes, is a former Irish football player. Grimes played 18 times for the Republic of Ireland.

Grimes, who played as a defender and midfielder, began his career with junior side Stella Maris before joining Bohemians . He had a trial with Manchester United in August 1972 but returned to Bohemians. He got a second chance and joined United permanently in March 1977. Between 1977 and 1983 Grimes made 107 first team appearances and scored 11 goals for Manchester United. He subsequently joined Coventry City for a fee of £200,000. After only one season he moved to Luton Town F.C. where he made 117 appearances and scored 4 goals. In 1989 he joined CA Osasuna, making his La Liga debut on November 8 against Celta Vigo. Grimes played 15 games for CA Osasuna in total. After retiring as a player he worked on the coaching staff at Stoke City F.C. and Huddersfield Town F.C..
