Ashes and Diamonds (Polish: Popiół i diament) is 1948 novel by the Polish writer Jerzy Andrzejewski. In 1958 it was made into a film directed by the well-known Polish film director, Andrzej Wajda.

The story takes place on May 8, 1945, the last day of fighting World War II in Poland. Maciek is a soldier assigned to terminate Szczuka, but starts to second guess whether he should complete his mission.
