Asheridge

Asheridge is a small hamlet in the parish of Chesham, in Buckinghamshire, England. It is situated in the beautiful Chiltern Hills, about two and a half miles north west of Chesham. Other close towns include Great Missenden, Wendover, and Berkhamsted.

The village name is Anglo-Saxon and means, literally, Ash Ridge, referring to the situation of the village on the ridge of a hill. In the Saxon period this whole area was completely forested, thus the 'ash' part of the village name.

It should not be confused with Ashridge, which is a college and estate (including several commons), about 5 miles north-east, the other side of Berkhamsted.
