Ash cash is a term in British slang for the fees claimed by a medical practitioner after writing a deceased patient's cremation certificate. The requirements for a cremation certificate are stricter than those for a normal death certificate since no further investigation would be possible after a cremation. The doctor has to certify that no pacemaker or radioactive implants are present in the corpse, that he or she has no pecuniary interest in the patient's death and full details of how they died. [1].
