Asbury, Iowa

Asbury is a suburb of Dubuque and is located in Dubuque County, Iowa, United States. It is part of the 'Dubuque, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area'. The population was 2,450 at the 2000 census. Studies are now showing that a rise in convenience and quality of Asbury has mad eit a prime target for subdivisions and large shopping centers, which has ultimately raised the population of Asbury to new heights. The 2005 census of Asbury has not come in yet, but locals are projecting that the population will double from its 2000 levels to near 7,000 residents. Dubuque is expanding its' horizons, and Asbury is the spot of the major expansion, with several (10-20) subdivisions, and several new stores with land pending all over town for new commercial and residential spots. Small town Asbury... no more.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,450 people, 846 households, and 728 families residing in the city. The population density was 375.4/km² (971.8/mi²). There were 867 housing units at an average density of 132.8/km² (343.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.49% White, 0.49% African American, 0.37% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.73% of the population.

There were 846 households out of which 44.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.8% were married couples living together, 6.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.9% were non-families. 11.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the city the population was spread out with 30.7% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 27.8% from 45 to 64, and 6.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $60,100, and the median income for a family was $64,097. Males had a median income of $41,935 versus $25,337 for females. The per capita income for the city was $21,447. About 4.5% of families and 4.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.3% of those under age 18 and 7.9% of those age 65 or over.
