Arun Singh

Arun Singh is a former union minister of state for defence in the Government of India .He was minister in the government headed by by Rajiv Gandhi .

Born in the princely family of Kapurthala, Arun Singh had been at Doon School and later in Cambridge with Rajiv Gandhi. After doing his MA in 1971, Arun Singh joined Metal Box and later Reckitt and Coleman.

Arun and Rajiv Gandhi were great friends and so were their wives, Nina and Sonia. When Rajiv moved into 5 to 7 Race Course Road as prime minister, he made the Singhs live in the adjoining bungalow, with just a wicket gate separating them.

At the height of Bofors scandal uproar in parliament one day he quit the government for unknown reasons and faded into the misty hills of Almora.

At the time of Kargil war NDA defence minister Jaswant Singh brought him back as his advisor. He is regarded as man of integrity in indian political circles.
