Arul is a Tamil (Kollywood) movie starring Vikram, Jyothika, Vadivelu, Pasupathy, Vinu Chakravarthy and Vaiyapuri. The music is composed by Harris Jeyaraj. The story tells how a man is rejected by his family but then finds his way back. It was a box-office hit. The film was directed by Hari.

Arulkumaran (Vikram) initially a goldsmith, later a factory worker turned into a DON takes on villains of different levels right from thaluk level to state level as he moves through his career. Gajapathy (Pasupathy) is a MLA whose only ambition in life is to garner more wealth. Arul encounters him and the MLA is relieved from his worldly duties.

Arul seeks to spend his rest of his life in prison but he finds way out by getting from Police and Doctors, who turns down the case. Senapathy (Kollam Thulasi) is Gajapathy’s elder brother is a modern day Chanakya in Nadu Politics. The rest of the story is how Arul cleans up Coimbatore city and how he handles Senapathy.

The film opened in 170 screens throughout Nadu. It grossed Rs.40 million in the first week of release. It played for 78 days before being replaced by the next Vikram film - Anniyan. It was later dubbed into Telugu as Arulapodu.
