[edit] Note on deletion

In order to comply with the wishes expressed in the discussion, that the anon editor be given a reasonable opportunity to recover his work, I have moved the articles out of article space and replaced them with "deletedpage" templates which will encourage him to engage in dialog via the talk pages. Please do remove the "deletedpage" templates or delete the articles; this is an essential part of the process of closing this VfD. --Tony SidawayTalk 17:20, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

  • That template is for protecting pages against recreation (hence the Category:Protected deleted pages). Since you userfied the pages, and the talk pages of these articles are blank, I'd say that this is a misguided use of said template. Radiant_>|< 18:26, August 28, 2005 (UTC)
  • I don't think the templates are limited to one use or another. Why should they be? I've deleted the pages in question but I'm using them to redirect the anonymous to the talk pages in case he wants to continue communicating. Just leaving deleted pages would probably confuse him. I've been busy with other things but I intend to place a message on the relevant talk pages to let him know that he can still download the data. I think this is what those discussing the case intended--they seemed most anxious not to just delete information without giving him every chance to claim it. --Tony SidawayTalk 22:32, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
    • I think that's a "solomonic" decision, and I doe welcome it indeed...Lectonar 06:51, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

Well, this is the author who finally registered ( which was not a major conern of mine, ). When I finally read RHaworth's comments on Sunday after the 5 1/2 days of starting to enter these, ... letters, I immediately at least decided to Sign my name, MMcAnnis,YumaAz. I have explained in a couple of paragraphs, the focus of the 3 and a half weeks was trying to organize letters, which take about 10 LAYERS of analyzing and putting them on a screen in front of me. The topic I had been Studying,... so that ..... Wasn't the Hard-est part. I had to learn the text editting of Wikipedia, as the Big NO. 2, and then the Readability Format, as Big No. 3. ....By the 4th lettter I realized how difficult it was on the first letter EA 296. It in itself is a difficult letter, so I tried to go to some of the easier ones, after that. Plus

Plus, I started to realize how much I could cross-reference and help CREATE, something more holistic, and integratiive. I did realize, a lot of biblical references (witness, hebrew and Canaanite for the Amarna Letters), how biblical some of the site Dictionary/Encyclopedia is.

However the Amarna Letters, in themselves, are not religious, or biblical. The historicity of the Bible, can sychronize, the events of the EA letters. as well, as the Places, and People. And don't forget some points of fact, the Old Testament only got started about 900 B.C.E., so the Amarna letters period is about 500 years previous. It is amazing that the Hebrews kept track, of so much of their previous history.

As a NOTE The Amarna letters page in a roundabout way explains the Amarna Letters, However a page can be created something along the lines of Amarna Letters, corpus(EA 1-EA 382). It would explain many things.

  • ----3 basic lists immediately jump out. No. 1, the series of letters listed by category from whom, i.e.......... EA 17-28, Tushratta of Mitanni, ....... EA29-32, King of Alashiya, Cyprus, .......EA 359 (Non-EA letter, non El Amarna letter, the Famous "King of Battle" letter),..... EA 359-EA 379, The 1928 Corpus
  • ----list No. 2 would identify all the deleted letters, because 1/3 of 382 are not useable, or only marginally usable. Fortunately the pictures in books are an interesting assortment of letters
  • ----No. 3 could be a location list of the letters

Anyway the Amarna letters page is not a page of the body of letters. and,...I believe they are Historical Documents, each one of them. ....And I am implying that someplace in the public domain, these letters need to be made available. As an aside, the Picture or phote on the Amarna letters page, is not even up to minumun standards. Any person who knows Akkadian, sumerograms, almost anything ancient, and archeological would have to shake their heads at the photo of a clay tablet, letter, which is unreadable, with undistinguishable features.

This is Wiki, if you don't like the picture, supply a better one. But make sure it does not violate copyright. -- RHaworth 10:18:25, 2005-09-04 (UTC)
I don't know whether I'm getting through to you. Please stop trying to edit those articles. They are only there for a few days to allow you download copies. I'm deleting them all on September 8th, so you must have made copies by that time or else you will lose the information. --Tony SidawayTalk 04:08, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
