[edit] Lagduf
This character is so minor that he is mentioned in exactly one sentence of the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, to state that he had been shot. I don't see how a character mentioned once in passing even warrants an entry on a list of minor characters, let alone a whole entry. Arkyan 00:55, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Delete, I remember ol' Lagduf, he's LOTRcruft. Wyss 01:34, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect to Orc (Middle-earth). Megan1967 01:41, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Redirect to discourage recreation. Do not merge unless perhaps someone feels like adding a "list of Orcs named by Tolkien". I am generally all in favor of Tolkien-related articles, but this is ridiculous. -Aranel ("Sarah") 04:19, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Redirect to discourage recreation, like Aranel suggested. Wakuseino 05:45, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Keep or merge. I'm curious to see how much LOTR fans can write about this obscure character. They can always redirect and merge it themselves if they can't expand it, you know. VfD doesn't have to do everything. It's a better approach to let something like this be handled by editors interested in the subject. Everyking 09:16, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I am interested in this subject, and the problem is that there is no room for expansion on this character. The character's entire role is to be mentioned. Nothing is said of who he was, what kind of orc he was, or even what he did. Again, the only time his name appears in the entire trilogy is to say, and I quote, he and another orc "ran through [the gate], but they were shot." Not a single other reference is ever made to him. Arkyan 12:31, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I suppose. What about whoever started the article, or made that table at the bottom, what do they think? Personally I think a redirect to a list of similar minor characters could be a good idea, but I've never read the books or even seen the movies, so I'm not qualified to say, really. Everyking 12:35, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I am qualified to say. There is really, truly nothing more to add. I'm not even convinced a list would be useful, but I suppose we could list Orcs somewhere. (It wouldn't be hard. There aren't very many of them.) -Aranel ("Sarah") 14:37, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- Comment: In the satirical game MUNCHKIN, there is a monster card "2,614 Orcs". I would consider that "very many of them" if they were trying to kill me and take a ring from me. Barno 16:31, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- OK, well, whatever you think is best. I'm sure a reasonable solution could be reached without involving an already massively bloated VfD. Everyking 14:41, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- Merge to some list of Orcs. And why don't we have a Great Tolkiencruft Purge while we're at it... -- Riffsyphon1024 09:19, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)
- Redirect, no merge necessary. DaveTheRed 09:38, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- keep or merge and let something like this be handled by editors interested in the subject, and not by me (no offense). Kappa 11:58, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I'm all for inclusion, but this character is just too minor for inclusion. He got just one line in the entire trilogy and died in it. Delete, because he can't be expanded. If there's actually Orcs around that have more info available on them, I'm not opposed to a list of Orcs, but just listing all Tolkien's Orcs by name without any other info seems unencyclopedic to me. Mgm|(talk) 14:32, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)
- Comment: Wikipedia isn't a memorial: Shouldn't this count for fictional orcs as well? Mgm|(talk) 14:46, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)
- Delete, or redirect to an appropriate article. The itty-bittiest of bit parts; there isn't any more to write about the character than appears in this substub. --TenOfAllTrades | Talk 15:03, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Delete, this is not even a minor character. Radiant! 20:07, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)
- Delete. The article says everything that could possbily be said about this "character", adn it still says next to nothing. If Tolkien farted would a Tolkien fan write an article about it? Probably. -R. fiend 02:33, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Delete Tolkien cruft. One mention in a book does not make a character notable. -- Cleduc 04:36, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Delete. I'm in favor of keeping a lot of Tolkien stuff, but this goes beyond the pale. RickK 05:17, Mar 13, 2005 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect ... somewhere ... to discorage recreation. Protect redirect if necessary. Include a pit of vipers and barbed wire around it if need be - David Gerard 14:56, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Delete. I'm a fan, but there's never going to be much that can be written about a fictional character who was mentioned once in all of Tolkien's works, nor is this notable. Jonathunder 22:41, 2005 Mar 13 (UTC)
- Delete too minor even for list inclusion Andrew Lenahan - Starblind 14:54, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)
- KEEP - Tolkien's orcs articles merit more development than the present wide spread use of journaling in Wikipedia to cover adult material. -- John Gohde 14:20, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Delete, beyond tolkiencruft. ComCat 02:42, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
