[edit] Inanimate Carbon Rod
No sources cited, the only sources that could be cited are not substantial. It's just not notable--of the almost 400 episodes of The Simpsons, this features prominently in.... 1., and it isn't a "character" at all--it just gets a worker of the week award and helps save Homer in space. If we're going to do this, we have to take other inanimate objects from The Simpsons that feature prominently in all of the episodes, like the pattern on the curtains in the kitchen. Not notable all the way to the bank.-Kmaguir1 00:13, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

I have been an avid readed of wikipedia for over one year. Never before have I been motivated to edit any page before I noticed the 'inanimate carbon rod' was subject to deletion. The reason why I believe the inanimate carbon rod deserves its own article is that characters in the episode (e.g. Lenny and Carl, as well as the whole town for its parade) personify the inanimate object, and speak and refer to it as if it was an actual person. This is why I believe the inanimate carbon rod can be distinguished from other prominent inanimate objects (as suggested, the corn curtains as well as things like perhaps Bart's lucky red hat), because of the way the charachters praise and rever the rod's bravery and courage (personification) as if it were a real person. This obviously goes to the root of the joke, which is to essentially demonstrate the incompetence of Homer.Supermegaman 13:30, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

- But see, it's funny on the Simpsons, as a one-time gag with little shelf life. It wasn't brought back as prominent, it had the "Deep Space Homer" thing, and then the chart of the nuclear power plant in C'E'D'oh, but that was about it. It doesn't deserve its own article, it should be talked about in the "Deep Space Homer" episode. Again, there are things about which there is more featuring, the corn curtains, Bart's hat, but again, it is not the job of Wikipedia to let users in on a one-episode joke--let the episode do that.-Kmaguir1 20:37, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Merge not an actual character, more a plot device. On the other hand, it is a great article... Jefffire 13:33, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

- Merge I'm a huge Simpsons fan. It's a funny episode where the 'rod' is introduced. Even the article is well written, at least to wikipedia standards. But it simply isn't an encyclopedia article. Gotta go, rod. GeeZee 03:22, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- Keep Too good an article. Applemask 16:19, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- Merge It's got some good content but it doesn't need it's own page. The One00 19:55, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- Merge Not important enough to get its own article, but too good an article to simply delete. Spongesquid 00:39, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Merge is my vote. But who am I anyway, but a lowly Simpsons nerd? 70.177.26.62 09:43, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Merge to a list of Simpsons "characters" per WP:FICT, definitely not independently noteworthy. RFerreira 20:57, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Merge. It's not notable enough to be a page on it's own. RobJ1981 02:03, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Merge with Deep Space Homer, although could also have a mention in the List of one-time characters from The Simpsons, perhaps. Bob talk 15:18, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Keep I think it is hilarious and the way it was personified, I definately think it should stay. [User:EasyAttack]]
- Keep Small, specific articles about things related to a much larger topic are, in my opinion, helpful and worthy of keeping. No, the rod isn't a main character, nor is it absolutely necessary to have a page for it. But having tons of information about such a large TV series is helpful, and this particular article was about a noteworthy event in a particular episode. If they had devoted time to the drapes in the kitchen, or the lamp next to the couch, I would think that would make those respective objects more noteworthy, but since they are objects that haven't been interacted with in a meaningful way, it would be pointless to have things like that on Wikipedia. But for the sake of having as much information as possible on related items, I think this article should stay. chrispiss1186
- Keep Great article. I don't see why it can't be kept. There are a LOT more minor characters with articles not only from The Simpsons, but from other shows. If not, Merge with Deep Space Homer. -- Scorpion0422 03:44, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
