Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Templates

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leaving answers as to why an article can or can not be created on Articles for Creation can be a tedious and repetitive task. Therefore, User:Deskana made some templates that make this task easier. Other users have since added more templates.

Please remember to use the '''subst:''' command. It reduces server load (see WP:SUBST).

These templates are used when reviewing anonymous users' Articles for Creation submissions.

Contents

[edit] Templates that should always be used

What to type Where to type it What will appear
{{ subst:afc top|accept }} At the top of accepted entries, just below the headline

{{subst:afc top}} At the top of declined entries, just below the headline

{{subst:afc b}} At the very bottom of accepted or declined entries. Forms the bottom of the {{subst:afc top|accept}} or {{subst:afc top}} box

[edit] Decision templates

These templates are used to explain your decision on an article to the submitter and to other reviewers. You never have to use a decision template; you can just write out your description in your own words instead. Your decision (whether or not you use a template) should be placed at the end of the submission, just before the {{subst:afc b}} template. Don't forget to sign your decisions with ~~~~, whether or not you use a template.

[edit] Decision templates for accepted articles

What to type When to use it What will appear
{{subst:afc accept}} When you accept an article from an anonymous user
  • Article created. Thank you for your contribution to Wikipedia!
{{afc accept|Name}} When you accept an article, but put it at a different title.
  • Article created. You can find it at Name.Thank you for your contribution to Wikipedia!
{{subst:afc reguser}} When you accept an article from a registered user
  • Article created. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia! By the way, the Article for creation process is intended for anonymous users. Since you are a logged-in registered user, you don't need to use this process; you can create articles yourself. If you'd like to create future articles on your own, follow the steps and guidelines listed on Help:Starting a new page.

[edit] Decision templates that can be used for declined articles

What to type When to use it What will appear
{{subst:afc exists}} Submission already exists on Wikipedia, under the name the submitter used
  • This article already exists in Wikipedia.
{{ subst:afc exists|John Smith }} Submission already exists on Wikipedia, under some other name
  • This article already exists in Wikipedia. You can find it at John Smith.
{{subst:afc v}} or {{subst:afc source}} Submission has no appropriate sources
{{subst:afc nn}} or {{subst:afc bio}} Submission is about a non-notable person
  • Declined. This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. See the speedy deletion criteria A7 and/or guidelines on biographies. Please provide more information on why the person or group is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. Thank you.
{{subst:afc web}} Submission is about a non-notable web site
  • Declined. This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. See the speedy deletion criteria A7 and/or guidelines on web sites. Please provide more information on why the web site is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. Thank you.
{{subst:afc corp}} Submission is about a non-notable company/corporation
{{subst:afc music}} or {{subst:afc m}} or {{subst:afc band}} Submission is about a non-notable band or musician
  • Declined. This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. See the speedy deletion criteria A7 and/or guidelines on musical artists. Please provide more information on why this musical artist is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. Thank you.
{{subst:afc dict}} or {{subst:afc d}} Submission simply gives the meaning of a word or abbreviation
  • Declined. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a dictionary. We cannot accept articles that are little more than definitions of words or abbreviations as entries. A good article should begin with a good definition, but expand on the subject. Please try creating an article at Wiktionary instead.
{{subst:afc cv}} Submission contains a copyright violation. Please delete the copyrighted text in the submission.
  • Declined. We can not accept copyrighted content taken from web sites or printed sources. Note that copyright protection is granted to all works automatically, whether it is asserted or not. Unless stated otherwise, assume that most content on the internet is copyrighted and not suitable for Wikipedia. Please write in your own words, and in continuous prose.
{{ subst:afc cv-n|http://www.copyvio.com/page.html }} Submission contains a copyright violation, and you want to point out the source of the copyrighted text. Please delete the copyrighted text in the submission.
  • Declined. This article appears to be taken from http://www.copyvio.com/page.html.
{{subst:afc blank}} or {{subst:afc empty}} Submission is blank
{{subst:afc adv}} Submission is essentially an advertisement
  • Declined. We're sorry, but your article appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. If you still feel that this subject is appropriate for Wikipedia, please rewrite your proposed article in the form of an encyclopedia entry, not an advertisement. Encyclopedia entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of published, verifiable sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the item being discussed.
{{subst:afc neo}} Submission is about a non-notable neologism
  • Declined. Neologisms are not considered notable unless they receive substantial use and press coverage; this requires strong sourcing. Links to sites specifically intended to promote the neologism itself do not establish notability.
{{subst:afc lang}} Submission is in a language other than English
  • Declined. This is the English-language Wikipedia; we can only accept articles written in the English language. Please provide an English-language translation for your article, or visit the Wikipedia home page to find the version of Wikipedia for your desired language.
{{subst:afc nonsense}} Submission is patent nonsense. Please delete the nonsense. Alternatively, you can simply delete the entire submission (including headline, etc.) without replying.
  • The proposed article previously in this section has been declined and removed from this page, since it appears to be nonsense. If this proposal was written as a test, then congratulations; your test succeeded. Please use the sandbox for further tests, or please go on and propose a real article, following the guidelines listed on the Wikipedia:Articles for creation page.
{{subst:afc attack}} Submission is an attack page. Please delete the attack. Alternatively, you can simply delete the entire submission (including headline, etc.) without replying.
{{subst:afc joke}} Submission isn't quite patent nonsense, but is definitely a joke
  • Declined. Your article appears to be a joke. It might be a wonderful entry in Uncyclopedia, a wiki where jokes and parodies are highly encouraged. But sadly, Wikipedia requires a stodgier, more factual tone in its articles, and your comedic efforts cannot be rewarded here.
{{subst:afc not}} Submission is not a joke, nonsense, or attack, but clearly not suitable material. Most such articles are not serious article submissions, but are personal remarks about another person, about oneself, family members, teachers, girlfriends, boyfriends, etc.

[edit] Templates that can be used for undecided articles

What to type When and where to use it What will appear
{{afc maybe|This seems barely notable}} When you can't make up your mind on an article, and want to flag it so that later reviewers will notice it. Place this tag just below the headline. It is better if you do not subst it, to make it easier for a later reviewer to remove it. This template puts the page in Category:Wikipedia article creation requests needing further review.
Attention, reviewers: A previous reviewer could not decide whether this article is appropriate for creation.

The prior reviewer left the following comment: This seems barely notable..
Please review the article carefully and, if possible, render a decision on it. If you do render a decision, please remove this tag.

[edit] Templates that can be used to mark archive pages

What to type When and where to use it What will appear
{{afc moretodo}} When an AfC archive page contains submissions that have not yet been reviewed by anyone. Place this either at the top of the page, or just above the first unreviewed article. This template places the page in Category:Wikipedia article creation requests needing further review.
Attention, reviewers: There are article submissions beyond this point on this archive page that have not yet been reviewed.

Please look through the page and accept or decline the unreviewed requests, or add the {{afc maybe}} tag to requests that seem particularly troublesome. If you handle a significant number of requests, please move this {{afc moretodo}} tag down the page to the point where you stopped. When all article submissions on the page have been accepted, declined or flagged with the {{afc maybe}} tag, please remove this tag from the page.
