[edit] Proud cut
Horses that retain sexual behaviors after castration are called "proud cut". It was thought this was due to some testicular tissue being missed during the gelding procedure perhaps allowing testosterone production to continue. In the past this may have been true considering the crude methods of castration practiced before recent times. Today, with much cleaner and advanced techniques, it is unlikely that missed testicular tissue is the cause for horses who exhibit sexual behaviors after castration. The adrenal glands also produce testosterone and it is thought that the cause of "proud cut" behavior may be due to the hyperactivity of a particular horse's adrenal glands.

[edit] Ko Dang
Cho Man Sik, penname Ko dang, born in Geongseo-gun, Pyeongnam Province (1 Feb 1883 – 1950). He spent his entire life dedicated to his country and people. With his strong faith (Christian), noble character, will power and the ability to carry out his beliefs in reviving national independence, contributed much to Korean society. He carried out non-violent resistance against the Japanese occupation and was one of the 50,000 or so Koreans arrested during the March 1st Independence Movement.[[Image:http://www.lifeinkorea.com/Images/Kyonggi/ODOB006.jpg--62.6.139.11 09:57, 4 August 2006 (UTC)]]
After the 1945 liberation from the Japanese occupation he dedicated himself to a unified democratic Korea. He became the head of the People’s Committee for North Korea and went on to form the Choson (Jeoson) Democratic Party. This group comprised Christians, intellectuals and nationalists who stood up to the strong-arm tactics of the communists.
In late 1945 Kim Il Sung returned to a “liberated” Korea dressed in Soviet uniform and was forced to share leadership of North Korea. Cho Man Sik was opposed to the communists and therefore Kim Il Sung who was backed by the Soviets. Cho Man Sik was arrested along with other anti-Communists and intellectuals who did not manage to escape to South Korea. Under house arrest he continued to oppose the communists in North Korea.
Kim Il Sung learned form Stalin how to treat the opposition… with the bullet. Cho Man Sik and other opponents of communism were executed, he was martyred in 1950. This enabled Kim Il Sung to rise to power with the approval of the Soviet Union.
In 1970 he was awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation and a Republic of Korea medal by the South Korean government.
[edit] Taekwondo
In the ITF style of Taekwondo one of the patterns or tul/hyung, Ko Dang, is name after him. This pattern was one of the original 20 patterns included in the 1965 book Taekwon-do: The art of self-defence by Choi Hong Hi. Later on 4 more patterns were added to the syllabus.
In the 80’s after a visit to North Korea Ko dang was replaced with pattern Juche. The official reason was that certain techniques were not included in the patterns, so Ko Dang being one of the last patterns created was the obvious choice. But it was not one of the last created and seems more likely the change was made to curry favour with the North Korean government.

[edit] Highlights of the history of Embu District
The district of Embu was initially made up of the current Embu district and the now Mbeere district until 1995 when the two were divided by former president Daniel arap Moi.It runs from Thuchi River to Rupingazi River. It is bordered by Mbeere, Meru and Kirinyaga Districts. It also borders Mt Kenya on the eastern side. The general infrastructure is fair as the main roads are fairly well maintained and there is easy access to basic ammenities ranging from watre, electricity, hospitals, schools among others. However, there is still alot remaining in terms of opening up the district. Embu District has various divisions among them Runyenjes, Manyatta, Kyeni and Central. The main cash crops in Embu District are Coffee, Tea, and tricles of tobacco. Other perennial crops include maize, beans, irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, arrow roots, bananas, mangoes among many others. The highlands of Embu are very cold and include areas like kianjokoma where temperatures sometimes hit lows of below 10 degrees celcius. The lower side of the district is relatively warm and here is where tobacco is grown. The district has two Constituencies; Manyatta and Runyenjes. The former is currently (2006) represented by the minister for Co-operative Development, the Honourable Njeru Ndwiga while the latter is represented by Martin Nyaga Wambora. However, the youth seem to be keen on taking up leadership with several youngsters declaring their interest in these seats, notably one Njeru Ngochi whose philosophicl ideas and philanthropic gesture have captured the hearts of locals.

[edit] Amber Marfatia - - Why to fight for Twenty 20
Why argue with Twenty20?
Finally, we have consented to play Twenty20 cricket. But why the initial reluctance? Change, they say, is the only constant. Only the dead don't change. Only the short-sighted resist reform...
Put the clock thirty odd years back. We took a dim view of the One-day matches when the idea was first mooted. There was no dearth of moaners saying it was the beginning of the end of the traditional longer five-day version of the game. It was there alone, they averred, lay the true test of the character of cricketers. The batsman took his own sweet time to first have a feel of the wicket and the quality of the bowling before he went on to build his timeless innings. Vice-versa for the bowler. He bowled over after maiden over to discover the weak spots in the batsman's technique before luring him to his ultimate doom.
Something had to be done to stop those dull marathons and One-day, or limited overs matches were devised. For us hesitant Indians the first World Cup, played in 1975 for the Prudential trophy, was an embarrassment. How and why our champion batsman batted on and on for sixty overs for all of 36 runs is something remembered to this day. But when, eight years later, Kapil Dev's team defeated Clive Lloyd's mighty West Indies in the final of the third World Cup Indian cricket felt like being on top of the world and ODIs became the raging fashion. To be called world champions you had to win one-day games not Test matches. What an irony! Excepting for an Ashes series, cricketers play to largely empty stands.
Those who swear by traditional five-day Tests would do well to be reminded that once upon a time Test matches were not limited to a mere five days. They could go and on. There was this Test between England and South Africa at Durban in 1939 which had to be abandoned after 10 days, otherwise the Englishmen would have missed the boat for the journey back home. About two thousand runs on the board (1,982 runs to be more precise) in ten days and yet no result!
For all the excitement that can be packed into a One-day international, it is ceasing to be a novelty. Already one can hear voices complaining: who has the time to sit through all day, or day/night sometimes, leave alone five long days. As it is, cricket centres are no longer interested in staging five-day Test matches. They demand only One-dayers.
Innovations have to be made and space found for both the short and long versions of the game. To accommodate lovers of the longer version, a five-day Test could be shortened to a three-day one-innings affair, an innings limited to say 90 or 100 overs. Come to think of it, what is a second innings if not a replay. If the rules have to be changed so be it. Let India take the lead. It has the stature to do so. Let's prove we also can innovate and come up with new ideas.
There was a time when traditionalists of the five-day tribe sneered at ODIs. Now even some ODI tradionalists are expressing doubts about Twenty20, if not condemning it. Nothing but a slogger's game, they argue. So what if it is?
Bowlers are having their own fears and yet others fear the extra dose of cricket will hasten burnout. Who is preventing overworked cricketers from taking a little rest? For all we know, we may in time discover more talented players, as we have been doing from time to time. A little fast food in the form of Twenty20 will do no harm.

Matthew Hullum (born August 15, 1988 in Kansas City, Kansas), better known by his ring name Matt Cage, is an American professional wrestler. He is currently the reigning CWF World Champion. Wrestling primarily as a heel, Cage is currently portraying a face.
[edit] Career
On August 4, 2005, Matt Cage made his debut with the Championship Wrestling Federation in Las Vegas, a small independant promotion. On the inaugural show, Cage was defeated by The Hen in a CWF World Title match. Their feud went on for months, spanning multiple different matches in which Cage could not capture the title. The feud escalated and reached a boiling point and on February 8, 2006, he finally captured the title in a 45 minute 2 out of 3 falls match, winning the final two falls. Afterwards, The Hen extended his hand and handed Cage the title. Seconds later, their alignments were immediately switched as Hen nailed Cage with the World Title, busting him open and turning himself heel, and enabling Cage to become a fan favorite for the first time.

[edit] E-mu SP-1200
The SP-1200 was THE drum machine & sampler combo of legendary status among old school rap and hip hop artists from the eighties and nineties. It is similar to today's Akai MPC samplers - it is a sampler plus drum machine. It has limited sampling specs: 22 kHz and 12-bit resolution. However the dirtiness of that sound is great for hip hop and house music. They say it sounds like "old vinyl"... It features groove quantizing and a disk drive for sample storage. As an upgraded version of the 1985 SP-12, the SP-1200 focused on its coolest feature - sampling. The preset drum sounds of the SP-12 were omitted, leaving room for up to 32 user samples of your own custom sampled and edited drum sounds.
Although this machine was originally released in 1988, E-mu has reissued them again and again due to popular demand. They continued producing them until they ran out of the SSM filter chips they used, around 1998. It was just too legendary to give up as it was THE beat machine for old-school rap and hip hop!
[edit] Chilanzar Aktepe
Green Are located between Shayhantahur and Chilanzar districts in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This place can be truly named as a spot where East and West meet. Chilanzar Aktepe is enclosed between the old city (Samarkand darvoza street) and relatively new european chilanzar district. One can find here soviet type buildings and 19th century traditional uzbek houses. In the northern part of the district there is a "Basmatch gora" hill, which actually gave the name to the area.

[edit] Jersey Diners
Jersey Diners (Rutgers University Press 2006, ISBN 0813538769) is a work by Peter Genovese. It is packed with facts, trivia, and stories about the owners, employees, and clientele of a beloved American Institution. In addition, it includes a fully updated directory that details where you can find every diner throughout the state.
[edit] About the Book
There is nothing more “Jersey” than a diner. Adorning the highways and byways of fully half of the state’s 567 municipalities, no one in New Jersey lives far from one. There are more diners here than in any other state, and on top of that, two of the three remaining diner manufacturers are located in the Garden State.
In a year of roadside research, Peter Genovese talked to owners, employees, and customers, and ate more bacon and egg sandwiches than he cares to remember. The result is a funny, revealing book which The Courier-Post boasts is “The definitive work on the culinary phenomenon.” Whether you want to know where and how diners started, who invented eggs served in a skillet, why these twenty-four-hours-a-day eateries are so popular, or, most important, which one has the best French toast, Jersey Diners has the answers. The book is also complemented with over three hundred evocative, beautiful photos of the buildings, their distinctive décor, the food, and the people who love it from Sussex to Salem counties.
[edit] About the Author
New Jersey Monthly named Peter Genovese one of the 25 “New Jerseyans We Love.” Peter Genovese, a feature writer for the New Jersey Star-Ledger, eats, lives—even dreams—New Jersey. The author of The Jersey Shore Uncovered, Roadside New Jersey, and The Great American Roadtrip (all Rutgers University Press), he has driven 500,000 miles around the state in the past twenty years.

The other druids were less fortunate, but in their death throes, they unwittingly opened a great fissure that swallowed Thorn. Ge was buried for centuries until archaeologist Professor Lewis Lang unearthed him. By now the high priest was permanently trapped in his wooden body. Thorn's attempts to wreak mystical havok in the 20th century have been thwarted by Superman, Etrigan (DEMON), and Sentinel, among others. While Thorn has seemingly been destroyed on several occasions, he owes his survival to his ability to regenerate from the tiniest splinter.
[edit] AtMND1
AtMND1 is the Arabidopsis thaliana homologue of yeast MND1 gene. The expression of this gene is meiotic specific and its mutation cause sterility in plants. Detailed analysis have shown that the mutants are deffective in meiotic processes like homologous pairing of chromosomes and recombination. In Atmnd1 mutants the chromosomes undergoes severe fragmentation due to the ineficient double strand break repair machinery and will give rise non-viable gametes.

[edit] Universal Firearms Corporation
Universal Firearms, located in Hileah, FL, started making the M1 .30 Carbine for civilian sales in 1950 after buying surplus machine tools for carbine manufacture (Manufacturd under the name Bullseye). It began using mostly GI surplus parts and then began to make parts as the surplus market dried up. Later Universal changed the design and parts of the carbine and some collectors say thats when the quality went down hill. Universal sold to wholesalers such as Sears, Wards, and K-Mart. Universal Firearms was bought by Iver Johnson Arms (IJA), in 1983, who continued with the Universal Firearms name. The Universal Firearms name was dropped when IJA was bought by American Military Arms Corp. in 1987 Several variants of the .30 Carbine were made by Universal Firearms in calibers such as .44 Mag, .256 Win. Mag and a .25 Caliber bullet based on the .30 Carbine case.

[edit] Curtis Eller
An excellent and highly intriguing singer/songwriter who is based in New York City, Curtis Eller has successfully brought a variety of influences to his unorthodox folk-rock vision. The banjo-playing Eller's work has an old-time feel, drawing on an abundance of direct or indirect influences from the '20s, '30s, and '40s (including country singer Jimmie Rodgers, cowboy icon Gene Autry, and Mississippi Delta bluesman Robert Johnson). But Eller's material is far from a carbon copy of music from that era -- there is plenty of rock bite and attitude in his rootsy work, which also contains elements of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and the ballsy outlaw country of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. Eller, consciously or unconsciously, reminds listeners what Dylan, Cash, Son House, Pete Seeger, and Haggard have in common -- they are all known for being effective storytellers, and storytelling is where Eller himself shines.
The Queens resident is clearly fascinated by American history; he has written about the American Civil War, silent film star Buster Keaton (who he considers a strong influence), and aviatrix Amelia Earhart. Quite often, Eller's subject matter can be dark; "Alaska" is about a mining disaster, and "The Execution of Black Diamond" was inspired by a bizarre 1929 incident in which a circus elephant was paraded through the streets of a small Texas town and "executed" (the mayor took the first shot) after attacking and killing a local woman. Circuses, in fact, are a major interest of Eller, who studied juggling when he was a kid and calls his band Curtis Eller's American Circus. Eller has often said that his goal as a performer is to "capture the spirit of the Hartford Circus Fire of 1944," a tragedy that cost 167 people their lives and became the worst disaster in the Connecticut city's history.
A circus inferno is a bizarre way to measure artistic or creative success, but then, Eller's eccentricity is part of what makes his work so interesting. A website on the history of Hartford has posted the lyrics to "Hartford, CT," an Eller song describing the World War II-era tragedy. Another unusual thing about Eller is the way he plays the banjo, his primary instrument. Instead of playing it in an exuberant, bluegrass-like fashion, Eller often makes the banjo sound moody, haunting, and dark -- in Eller's hands, the banjo becomes the perfect instrument for songs about mining disasters and circus tragedies.
Originally from Detroit, MI, Eller listened to a variety of music when he was growing up in the Motor City -- everyone from Son House to Iggy Pop. After leaving Detroit, he spent some time in North Carolina, where he was the musical director for a local theater troupe. But Eller grew disenchanted with the theater and moved to New York City (where he made music his primary focus). Eller's debut album, 1890, was released in 2000 and was followed by the three-song EP Banjo Music for Funerals two years later. In 2004, Eller released his second full-length album, Taking Up Serpents Again.

[edit] Philip van Wilder
Van Wilder,) (Weldre, Welder, Wylder, Wyllender, de Vuildre, Wild, Wildroe), Philip (c. 1500-1554), South Netherlandish lutenist and composer, active in England. Like Peter van Wilder, who also worked in the Tudor court and was presumably related to him, Philip was probably born in Millam, near Wormhout, or in the nearby village of Wyler. A note in Italian in the Jacobean scorebook anthology GB-Lbl Egerton 3665 describes him as ‘Master Philip of Flanders, musician to King Henry VIII, who lived in England around the year 1520’. He was certainly in London by 1522, living in the parish of St Olave’s Hart Street (close to the Tower of London) and having £60 ‘in goodes’ and £48 ‘in fees’. The court account books for the year 1525-6 describe him as ‘mynstrell’; he was later designated ‘lewter’. Van Wilder rapidly advanced his position at the Tudor court. By 1529 he was a member of the Privy Chamber, the select group of musicians who played to the king in private. He was also active as a merchant, being given a licence to import Toulouse woad and Gascon wine, and in purchasing instruments for the court. He taught the lute to Princess (later Queen) Mary, who rewarded him with a gift on the occasion of his marriage to a woman named Frances in 1537. Later he also taught Prince Edward (later Edward VI), who wrote a letter to his father in 1546 thanking him for ‘sending me your servant Philip, as excellent in music as he is noble . . . by whom I might become more excellent in striking the lute’.
In 1539 Van Wilder became a denizen, which allowed him to own land. This enabled him to profit from the dissolution of the monasteries and engage in a number of lucrative property deals with the Crown. At various times he was granted the leaseholds on former monastic properties in London, as well as in Middlemarshe and Lyttlebredye in Dorset, previously owned by Cerne Monastery. By 1540 he was a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber, a prestigious position which enabled him to accept financial inducements to raise legal issues and private grievances with the King. At the time of Henry VIII’s death in 1547 Van Wilder was Keeper of the Instruments and effectively head of the Court instrumental musical establishment, a post later known as Master of the King’s Music.
Van Wilder continued to enjoy royal favour during the reign of the boy-king Edward VI (reigned 1547-1553). At Edward’s coronation he was placed in charge of a special group of nine singingmen and boys. He was granted a coat of arms and a crest, and in 1551 was given powers of impressments to recruit boys for the Chapel Royal from anywhere in England. On his death, Van Wilder was buried on the south side of the choir in his parish church of St Olave Hart Street, close to the Tower of London. His tomb was still in existence in 1733, but has since disappeared. An elegy in the poetry anthology known as Tottel’s Miscellany (1557) praises Van Wilder’s skill as a lutenist:
Bewaile with me all ye that have profest Of musicke thart by touch of courde or winde Laye downe your lutes and let your gitterns rest Phillips is dead whose like you can not finde . . .
Four sons and a daughter survived him; the eldest son, Henry, also became an instrumentalist in the Court establishment. The musicians Matthew and Peter Van Wilder, who also worked in the early Tudor court, were probably related to Philip (it is possible that Matthew, Peter and Philip were a father and two sons).
WORKS. More than 40 compositions by Van Wilder survive in about 60 Continental and English sources. He was primarily a composer of chansons, of 30 survive, but there are also seven motets, an English psalm setting, one consort piece and at least one composition for lute. The Continental sources, most of which are printed anthologies published between 1544 and 1598, generally give the text and music of the chansons in good order, but the English manuscripts present them in various guises, generally left untexted for instrumental performance or solmization and in arrangements for keyboard, lute, cantus with lute accompaniment, or even with substitute English texts. The most extensive English source is the table-book manuscript GB-Lbm Add. 31390, which contains seventeen textless chansons and motets attributed to ‘Mr Phillipps’. The five-part scoring and imitative textures employed in most of the chansons suggest that Van Wilder took a Flemish stylistic model, contrasting with the lighter, more homophonic style favoured by native French composers. A number of them are resttings of texts already set, sometimes several times, by other composers. The fragmentary En despit des envyeulx (a7) is a canonic treatment of a fifteenth-century homophonic chanson, and is one of five polyphonic surviving settings. Je dis adieu de tout plaisir (also a7) is a French contrafactum of a Dutch partsong to a text beginning Ik seg adiu, which was also based on a derived melody.
The motets are more varied in character, ranging from four to twelve-part scoring. The brief ‘monster’ motet Deo gratias (a 12), which was perhaps composed for a state occasion, is a cantus firmus treatment of the plaisong (Liber Usualis Mass XI). Homo quidam fecit cenam magnam (a7), which sets the plainsong as a cantus firmus in canon, is partly modelled on the setting by Josquin. The others are based on the Franco-Flemidh technique of through-imitation. Sancte Deus, sancte fortis (a4) has a general similarity of design with Tallis’s setting of the same text. Van Wilder made two distinct, though closely related, settings of Aspice Domine quia facta est (a5 and a6). The five-part setting was particularly popular with English musicians, as the seven surviving manuscript sources show. It provided the model for Byrd’s Civitas sancti tui (Part II of Ne irascaris Domine) and the source for the famous Non nobis Domine canon. One English manuscript (GB OB Tenbury 1464) preserves an interesting version with a substitute text in which the setting is changed from Jerusalem to Thebes, perhaps in order to serve as a play-chorus. The English psalm setting Blessed art thou that fearest God (a5) was also popular in Van Wilder’s adopted country, providing the model for Byrd’s If in thine heart (Songs of sundrie natures, 1589. Four lute pieces from English sources can be attributed to Van Wilder with varying degrees of probability, the best authenticated being a fantasia found in the two Matthew Holmes Lute Books. A curiosity is the Fantasia con pause e senza pause for four-part consort, which can be performed either with or without the rests.

[edit] PCBC® The Premier Building Show
PCBC is an annual tradeshow and conference serving residential builders and their project teams. Held each summer in San Francisco's Moscone Center, PCBC draws over 33,000 homebuilders, developers, architects, product manufacturers, and consultants to the industry.
In 2003, Tradeshow Week magazine honored PCBC as one of the 50 fastest growing tradeshows in North America.
Launched in 1959, the original name of the event was Pacific Coast Builders Conference. Since then, it has grown considerably in size and scope, serving a region much broader than the "Pacific Coast" and developing into a major tradeshow much larger than just a "Conference." Still, the acronym PCBC is known and familiar to many throughout the industry, so attempts to change the name have not been embraced. The official name is PCBC® The Premier Building Show.
