[edit] Gessius Florus
Gessius Florus was a prefect under the rule of Roman Emperor Nero. He was the prefect at the time of the Jewish Revolt. In the writings of Josephus (Jerusalem and Rome), Josephus describes Florus as a cruel and pitiless man. . "[He acted] as though he were a public executioner commissioned to carry out the . sentence against condemned criminals... To profit at the expense of an individual . he deemed a trifle; he despoiled entire cities, ruined populous communities, and . practically proclaimed throughout the country that everyone was at liberty to rob, . provided he might share in the plunder" Josephus also states that Florus deliberately drove the Jews to revolting to hide his criminal activities from the Roman emperor. . "...at that very moment he was laying plains for involving the Jews in a war-his sole . hope of concealing his atrocities. He reasoned that if peace continued, the Jews . would bring charges against him before the emperor... [In order to prevent this he . drove] the nation into rebellion [by daily aggravating] their sufferings."

Peter Panapticon is a english treasure and renowned authour of trivia. Have been to a minor public school in North yourkshire where he would often hop the cross country course. Having tried, and failed to eek out a caree as an extra variouis day time televison shows ( he once applied for the part of cell door in prisoner cell block H) he turned his genius to the literary world where he took a great interst in aquatic life. His greatest work is arguably not his second thesis on fish, which lacked the evidential and methodical substance of 1st thesis on plancton.

[edit] North-South divide in Italy
Italy, like many countries, has a north-south divide, with the northern part being the wealthiest and the southern the poorest.
[edit] Origins
The divide came into being in the late Middle Ages when the city-states of Northern Italy prospered economically and culturally as a consequence of the Renaissance, while the south was a Spanish colony all but in name. As a result the South was exploited and ripped of the money and resources it needed to prosper.
In the 19th century the division became more marked as the northern states, which were ruled by rulers who were friendlier to industrialisation than their southern counterparts, industrialised. Furthermore Northern Italy was more suitable for industrialisation as it was located closer to the industrial heartland of Europe (the United Kingdom, Belgium and Northeastern France) than the South.
As a result the North became industrialized while the South remained agricultural. This division has magnified until the present day as time progressed as the North had gained an industrial base for economic growth, with major Italian corporations (such as Fiat) originating in the North, while the South has a fragile agricultural base that doesn’t offer a lot of economic perspective. The emergence of the Mafia in the South hasn’t helped it either.
[edit] Consequences
The north-south division has a large economic, social, cultural and political impact.
[edit] Economic consequences
The economic consequences are huge with the North being twice as wealthy as the South. The GDP per capita of the North approaches that of other Western European economies, while the South would have the one of the lowest GDP per capita of the former EU-15 if it were independent, scoring only slightly than Portugal and Greece, but far worse than Spain.
[edit] Social and cultural consequences
The divide has created social and cultural differences as well. The mentality of Southern Italy corresponds more with the stereotype of the easy-does-it, colourful Italian, while the mentality of the North resembles the average Western European mentality of punctuality and even stress. The mentality of Southerners is generally more conservative as well, with extended families being more common in the South than in the North, which has a nuclear family model. Family is socially more important in the South than in the North as is the church. It should be noted that these descriptions are mostly stereotypes and that the truth is more balanced.
[edit] Political consequences
The huge differences between North and South have given rise to separatist movements in both North and South, even though Italy has been one country for almost 150 years. The most notable separatist movement is Lega Nord, who wants Northern Italy to declare independence as the state of Padania. Seperatist tendencies are less marked in the South but the South wants more money and autonomy for its economic development. Northerners and Southerners feel disdain for each other with Southerners being characterized as lazy, illiterate and criminal by Northerners, while Southerners see Northerners as arrogant, selfish and aloof.
[edit] Geographical distribution of Italian regions over North and South
[edit] North
Aosta Valley Emilia-Romagna Friuli Venezia Giulia Latium* Liguria Lombardy Marches* Piedmont Trentino-South Tyrol Tuscany Umbria* Veneto
[edit] South
Abruzzo* Apulia Basilicata Calabria Campania Molise* Sardinia Sicily
The provinces marked with an asterisk can be considered part of Central Italy which belongs neither to the North nor to the South. Abruzzo and Molise can be considered part of the South as they belonged to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies before Italy was united. All other Central Italian regions can be considered part of the North as they generally aren’t considered part of the South.

[edit] Homer Spit
The Homer Spit, a long, narrow finger of land jutting 4.5 miles into Kachemak Bay is located at the southern tip of Alaska's Kenai Penninsula land mass. It is the terminus of the Seward Highway, and is therefore, along with the city of Homer, frequently called the "End of the Road". The Spit is home to manny forms of wildlife including bald eagles, seaotters, seals, numerous shorebirds, and the Homer harbor's 1500 charter and commercial boat operators. It's geograpical uniqueness is rivalled only by its unique, even mystical, ability to capture a wayward visitor's soul with it's panoramic views of Katchemac Bay, Cook Inlet, the surrounding mountains, and the local salty oddities.

[edit] (Arabia)
Arabia, as evident from such early sixteenth century evidence, thus imported considerable quantities of provisions from the opposite side of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The extent of this commerce was already noted by the sixteenth century Portuguese traveller Francisco Alvares. He reported, in the 1520's, that the Debarwa area, on the northern rim of the Ethiopian plateau, produced "numerous grain crops of every kind and nature", which were carried down to the coast, at Massawa, and then shipped across the sea to Arabia, for sale at Mecca, Zabid, and Jeddah.

[edit] Jawn Henry steam turbine locomotive
In 1954, the Norfolk & Western received a Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton and Babcock & Wilcox-built a steam-turbine-electric named "Jawn Henry" that looked similar to the C&O attempt. It was shorter, weighed less, and had a Babcock & Wilcox "marine type" water tube flash boiler that operated at 900 psi., General Electric traction motors, and rode on four, three axle trucks. All axles were powered so the "Jawn Henry" was a C-C-C-C locomotive. The name given to this locomotive, "Jawn Henry" was taken from the legendary black construction worker who pitted his hammer and drill against a steam drill and died in the attempt.
Although it could be said that the "Jawn Henry" was superior to the Y6b, it lasted only three years. There were a number of problems with 2300. Most of them were worked out during its short life. Some of these problems included the turbine blades getting out of whack when the locomotive coupled onto a train, coal dust kept getting into the electrical machinery, and problems with the feedwater heater and semi-automated boiler controls. Although none of these were a "show stopper", the locomotive was mainly used as a "pusher" and was scrapped in 1958. Perhaps if the 2300 was introduced 10 years earlier and did not have to compete against a four-unit "F" consist, it may have had a longer life.

Custer of the West
The film was directed by Robert Siodmak, produced by Philip Yordan, written by Bernard Gordon and Julian Halevy and copy written in 1968 by Security Pictures, Inc. Production and Cinerama Productions Corporation. The Executive Producer is Irving Lerner. A movie that is two hours and 21 minutes in length made in 1967 and released in 1968 and is rated G.
The movie is well made and attempts to put a different twist on the mind of the man made famous for his ill fated tactics at the Little Big Horn. The movie is a very interesting portrayal about General George Armstrong Custer with a focus on his days between the Civil War and his last stand at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. His nemesis (Crazy Horse) on one hand , his love of the army (7th Calvary), his devotion to his wife (Elizabeth), his trust in his nation's leadership (Gen. Phil Sheridan) and his vainglorious reputation (61 charges, 11 horses shot from under him) all contribute to his final collision with reality (more than 5 to 1 odds of attacker to defender).
Robert Shaw (Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer) , Mary Ure (Elizabeth Bacon Custer) , Ty Hardin (Maj. Marcus Reno), Jeffrey Hunter, Charles Stalnaker, Robert Hall, Lawrence Tierney and Kieron Moore and Robert Ryan (Sgt. Mulligan) give very credible performances emphasizing the complexities of war, duty, honor, loyalty, glory, greed, reputation, promises and politics.

The lessons of history and of man remain for us to embrace.

[edit] Blue (?)
(72.11.219.227 05:14, 15 March 2006 (UTC)) Blue are fictional insect-like monstrous creatures from anime series Blue Gender. While the show takes place in the year 1931, it's unknown when exactly Blue started appearing. The first confirmed sightings took place in 1917. These monsters feed on both organic and inorganic materials. Humans are only small part of their diet. They gather humans within cocoons, and once they have large enough amount of them, then they feed on them. Because of them, most of humanity has been wiped out. Remaining survivors live on a orbital space station called "Second Earth."
