[edit] Chancellor (US legal system)
In the United States legal system, a Chancellor or Vice-Chancellor is one of the presiding judges of a Court of Chancery.
A Court of Chancery is a non-jury trial court of original and exclusive equity jurisdiction that adjudicates cases involving trusts, real property, guardianships, civil rights, and commercial litigation.
Four American states, Arkansas, Delaware, Mississippi, and Tennessee, maintain Courts of Chancery.
The Delaware Court of Chancery consists of one chancellor and four vice chancellors. They are nominated by the Governor and, when confirmed by the Senate, serve 12-year terms. The chancellor and vice chancellors must be learned in the law and citizens of the state of Delaware.
