Phillip Krapf worked as Metro Editor for the Los Angeles Times, until retiring in the mid-1990's. According to Krapf, less than two years later in 1997 he was taken up for a three day visit on a large, disk-shaped craft owned by "the Verdants"--thin, slightly bulge-eyed aliens with large heads; roughly 5' 6" inches tall. Although skeptics tend to dismiss the existence of aliens, Krapf is but one of a growing number of former White House defense officials, intelligence officials and others (including former astronauts) who have testified about direct encounters with UFO's and aliens.

Turns out he was a copy editor for the metro desk, not THE metro editor. Anyway he is notable in UFO-nonsense circles and there was already a long-winded unverifiable article at Phil Krapf so I redirected to Phillip Krapf from there and Verdants and overhauled the article to meet WP standards.

The New College Program at the University of Alabama was founded in 1970 in order to allow undergraduate students more flexibility in choosing their curriculum. The program allows students to create a "depth study" in any field the student wishes(with approval). The student then carries out his/her program by taking normal university courses combined with numerous independent studies designed to fulfill the student's goals for the degree the student is pursuing. Much of the learning in New College is out of class, and student studies must be approved for students to recieve credit. The program is only for students completing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree. The objective of New College is to inspire interdisciplinary learning in its undergraduates, and to prepare them to be well-suited for a proffessional career. Other goals of New College include better problem-solving ability among its students, and more efficient workers once the students have entered the work force.

Fairfield City and the western suburbs are known in the hip hop scene of australia to have adboted to more traditonal american sounding hip hop records and catering it to the Australian Market. While Da Psychotic Mc is in the mist of recording Pyschotic Emissons Volume 1, speculated features of Brotha Lynch Hung, Doomsday Productions, Warp Brothers are to appear. Da Psychotic Mc joined the Fairfield City Council Youth Committie 2004-2005.

Former member of boyband Boyzone. Michael "Mikey" Graham was born on the 15th of August 1972, and was the oldest member in the band.

Although he rarely sang lead, and took a back role in Boyzone, Mikey is a talented singer/songwriter. His debut album "Meet Me Halfway" was released in 2000, but failed to make an impact on the charts. His solo singles suffered a similar fate.

New Year Tree is a Russian version of Christmas Tree. The tree itself and the decoration are the same (and of the same big variety).

The difference is the event it's dedicated to - New Year celebration.

After the Russian Revolution, Bolsheviks started to wage a campaign against religion and at the end banned religious holidays, including Christmas. Russian New Year celebration tradition brought up to replace Christmas and it is following it with its symbols: New Year Tree replaces Christmas Tree and Ded Moroz replaces Saint Nicolaus.

Religion is no longer banned in post-Soviet countries, however people are still calling the tree as New Year Tree, rather then Christmas Tree.

Georgy Demidov (Георгий Георгиевич Демидов) was born in 1908 in a working class family in St. Petersburg, Russia. At an early age he showed technical and engineering gifts and was thought to be a future physicist. In 1938, he was arrested in Kharkov, where he was working, after being summonsed for an internal passport check. It was a check that was to last eighteen years. His interrogator threatened to arrest Demidov's wife, and orphan his five-month old daughter. Demidov confessed and was sentenced as a Trotskyite, a member of a terrorist Trotskyite organization, but did not accuse anyone else, and was sent to corrective labor camps.

For fourteen years he served in the Kolyma region of Siberia, ten in the most brutal of conditions. In 1946, he received a second sentence, after which he sent a telegraph to his wife that was in the form of an official telegraph informing her of his death. In the main camp hospital, Demidov became acquainted and then a friend to a hospital assistant, the future writer Varlam Shalamov.

He wrote several stories on labor camp themes, two of which were published in "Novy Mir" (1997, Volume 5, pp. 116-145) -- “Люди гибнут за металл” 'People die for metal' and “Художник Бацилла и его шедевр” 'The artist Baccilla and his wonders.' Unlike other writers of the camps, Demidov remains comparatively unknown and untranslated.

He died in 1987

Once as notorious as the Scottsboro Boys Case from Alabama, the Trenton Six Case, arose in 1948 in Mercer County, New Jersey, when six black defendents were convicted by an all-white jury of the murder of an elderly white shopkeeper.

In the process of appeal, the Communist Party took on the legal defense of half the defendants, making the case into an international cause celebre for propaganda purposes. The NAACP defended the other half, seeking to get their convictions overturned. Among the NAACP attorneys were Thurgood Marshall, later appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, Clifford Roscoe Moore, Sr., later appointed U.S. Commissioner for Trenton, New Jersey, the first Black American appointed to such a position since post-Civil War Reconstruction Era, and Raymond Pace Alexander, later to become a judge in Pennsylvania.

In the course of the appeal, trumped up evidence was revealed and the medical examiner in Trenton was found guilty of perjury.

The international attention focused on the case included many notables, from W.E.B. Dubois to Pete Singer -- even Albert Einstein, who lived close by in Princeton, New Jersey. Commentary and protests were issued from many nations.

Didim, located in Western coast of Turkey, is popular with its beaches and ancient settlements. The small town of Didim has a population of 12,000, but population surges dramatically during summer months. The city has gradually expanded around the central beach, Altinkum.

Starting from early 90’s, Didim became a tourism destination for northern European travelers, it is estimated that 20 percent of properties are owned by UK residents.

    • Thank you. Just FYI, reason 1 is explained down in the article (I realize you don't have time to read everything): the etymology is the African word "kwanza" (6 letters), artificially extended to 7 letters in order to mirror 7 traditional principles, and create a unique spelling. This led to both "kwanzaa" (regular) and "kwaanza" (odd).

Angelina Eberly was an innkeeper in Austin, Texas in 1842. Sam Houston had ordered the Texas Rangers to move the Republic of Texas' official papers from Austin to Houston, which he then intended to declare the capital of Texas. Eberly heard what was going on and ran out to an area near 6th Street and Congress Avenue and fired off a cannon. She missed the Texas Rangers who kept going with Texas' archives, but blew a hole in the General Land Office Building. Others were thereby alerted by the commotion and a posse soon recovered the documents and returned them to Austin. This incident is known as the Archives War.
