The information on ethnicity of the population is somewhat misleading. What they call Turks were actually Lazs (ethnically Georgians speaking Laz language), who were forced to convert to islam and change their names according to Ottoman traditions. Also, most of the churches called in this article as Armenian Catholic are actually Georgian Orthodox (similar architectural style), which is easy to prove since the signs on those still surviving structures are clearly made in old Georgian alphabet (somewhat similar to that of Armenian, thus the confusion).
