Arturo Pellerano Alfau

Arturo Joaquín Pellerano Alfau (1864-1935) was a merchant and journalist. He founded Listín Diario, the leading newspaper in the Dominican Republic, in 1889. He tried to maintain the independence of his newspaper through many troubled times. He was jailed several times by dictator Ulises Heureaux. During the US military intervention of 1916-24, he maintained a nationalistic line of constant protest.

He married twice, first to Juana De Jesús SARDA DIAZ (1861-1901), with whom he had seven children: Gustavo, Arturo Antonio Laureano, Isabel Emilia, Eduardo Bienvenido, Edmundo Rogelio, Carlos and Altagracia Juana. He later married Estela Micaela LOPEZ-PENHA MARCHENA, with whom he also had seven children: Estela Angélica, Elba Celeste Fedora, Nelly Edilia, Moisés Arturo, Carlos Vicente, Ana Gisela.
