Arthur Upham Pope

Arthur Upham Pope (1881–1969) was the director of the Iranian Institute and chancellor of the Asia Institute in New York, as well as president of the International Association for Persian Art and Archeology.
Over five decades he published detailed studies of many of the monuments and subjects covered in his book Persian Architecture, the Triumph of Form and Color. In addition to writing various books, among them Masterpieces of Persian Art and Introduction to Persian Art, he organized and edited the six-volume Survey of Persian Art.
Pope was buried in Isfahan, Iran. His mausoleum was designed by the Iranian architect Mohsen Foroughi and built by the mason Ustad Hussein Mu'arefi. Some of his papers are in the New York Public Library Manuscripts Division.
