Arthur Montford

Arthur Montford (born 1934, Glasgow, Scotland) is a former television sports journalist.
He was a print journalist and radio broadcaster before joining Scottish Television in 1957 to present its new sports programme, Scotsport. He remained its anchorman until his retirement in 1989. In all, he had hosted over 2,000 editions of the programme. He was also Lord Rector of Glasgow University from 1974 to 1977.
He was raised in Greenock where he became a lifelong supporter of the local football team, Greenock Morton FC.
Montford is famous for his trademark checked pattern sports jackets and some legendary lines of football commentary. These include: Up go the heads, What a stramash! and Disaster for Scotland!
In 1990 he narrated the film documentary Scotland: The World Cup Story.
