Arthur J. Dixon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arthur J. Dixon was a former member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and a real estate agent.

Arthur first got involved in politics running in the 1949 Canadian Federal Election and again in a 1951 by-election for the Social Credit Party of Canada in Calgary West. He was defeated both times.

Arthur would run again in the 1952 provincial election and end up elected to the third slot on the ballot transfer. Arthur served a long career in the legislature for the Alberta Social Credit Party from 1952 to 1975 and was ultimately defeated. He ran twice more but was unable to regain his seat.

Arthur would end up serving as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, after the death of Peter Dawson. He served that position from 1963 to 1972.

Arthur founded Dixon Real Estate Services Inc in 1956, which he ran until 1990. His son Tom Dixon took over the business.

Arthur was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1979.
