Arthur B. English

Arthur B. English was a British man who became Canada's official hangman in 1913. He used the pseudonym of Arthur Ellis. All of his successors adopted the same pseudonym. The Crime Writers of Canada present annual literary awards – the Arthur Ellis Awards – named for this pseudonym.
