Arthur Annesley, 11th Viscount Valentia

Arthur Annesley, 11th Viscount Valentia (23 August 184320 January 1927) KCVO CB JP was a British nobleman and Conservative politician.

The eldest son of Hon. Arthur Annesley and Flora Macdonald, he was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He succeeded his grandfather to the Viscounty in 1863. He joined the 10th Hussars in 1864 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1868. He served with the Yeomanry Cavalry, AAG, in South Africa and was mentioned in despatches. He retired from the Army in 1872.

He was elected as Member of Parliament for Oxford in 1895, holding the seat until 1917 when he was raised to a United Kingdom peerage as Baron Annesley of Bletchington. He was Comptroller of HM Household from 1898-1905 and a Lord in Waiting from 1915 until 1924. He was awarded the CB in 1900, the MVO in 1901 and the KCVO in 1923.

He was succeeded by his younger son, Hon. Caryl Arthur James Annesley, his elder son having been killed in action in 1914.
