Arsenic pentoxide is an important commercial compound of arsenic, with similar usage as arsenic trioxide for arsenic chemistry.

Contents

[edit] Preparation

  • Burn elemental arsenic in surplus of oxygen
  • Oxidation of arsenic trioxide with nitric acid

[edit] Crystal structure

[edit] Chemical properties

Arsenic pentoxide is produced by oxidising arsenic trioxide with oxidizing agents such as ozone, hydrogen peroxide and nitric acid. Arsenic pentoxide decompose to oxygen and As2O3 upon heating. As2O5 dissolve readily in water to form arsenic (V) acid.

[edit] Uses

Similar to arsenic trioxide.

[edit] Toxicology

Similar to arsenic trioxide.
