Arrondissements of the Oise département

In France, the chief town of an arrondissement is known as the sous-préfecture. When an arrondissement contains the préfecture (capital) of the département, that préfecture is the capital of the arrondissement, acting both as a préfecture and as a sous-préfecture. The Oise département of France has 4 arrondissements. These are:

  1. Arrondissement of Beauvais, (préfecture of the Oise département: Beauvais) with 14 cantons and 258 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 195,844 in 1990, and was 209,540 in 1999, an increase of 6.99%.
  2. Arrondissement of Clermont, (sous-préfecture: Clermont) with 7 cantons and 146 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 112,295 in 1990, and was 120,328 in 1999, an increase of 7.15%.
  3. Arrondissement of Compiègne, (sous-préfecture: Compiègne) with 10 cantons and 156 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 166,072 in 1990, and was 173,943 in 1999, an increase of 4.74%.
  4. Arrondissement of Senlis, (sous-préfecture: Senlis) with 10 cantons and 133 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 251,392 in 1990, and was 262,630 in 1999, an increase of 4.47%.
