Arrondissements of the Aveyron département

In France, the chief town of an arrondissement is known as the sous-préfecture. When an arrondissement contains the préfecture (capital) of the département, that préfecture is the capital of the arrondissement, acting both as a préfecture and as a sous-préfecture. The Aveyron département of France has 3 arrondissements. These are:

  1. Arrondissement of Millau, (sous-préfecture: Millau) with 15 cantons and 101 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 68,972 in 1990, and was 67,612 in 1999, a decrease of 1.97%.
  2. Arrondissement of Rodez, (préfecture of the Aveyron département: Rodez) with 23 cantons and 139 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 133,969 in 1990, and was 132,566 in 1999, a decrease of 1.05%.
  3. Arrondissement of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, (sous-préfecture: Villefranche-de-Rouergue) with 8 cantons and 64 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 67,200 in 1990, and was 63,630 in 1999, a decrease of 5.31%.
