Aroostook, New Brunswick

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aroostook is a village in New Brunswick, Canada, located where the Aroostook River empties into the Saint John River, 11 kilometres north of Perth-Andover in Victoria county. As of 2001 the population was 380.

Aroostook was founded in 1852 and became an important railway junction in 1878. The declining importance of railways through the latter half of the 20th century caused Aroostook to enter a period of population decline, this decline accelerated greatly following the closure of the railway through Aroostook in 1987.
