Arni, Tamil Nadu

Arni is a small town in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, located on the banks of the Kamandala Naaga river. It is 40 KM from Vellore and 130 KM from Chennai.
The name ' Arni ' comes from the word Araneeyam which means a place surrounded by a forest. The town was used by Arcot Nawabs for their military training campus. There is also a palace near the town, which is now used by the Agricultre Department.
Padaiveedu is a nearby famous holy place. Sri Renugammbal Temple, and Sri Venugopalaswamy temple are some famous temples in this town.
The town is popular for its silk-weaving community. The silk weavers are called Sengunthars. Silk is a rich fabric used to make Silk Sarees. Saree is a unique dress worn by the women in India and some of its neighbouring countries.
The town is also well known for its Paddy and Rice Business. There are around 200 modern rice mills in the town itselfs. Arni is number one in revenue income in Tiruvannamalai District, Tamilnadu.
Though the town is not well known outside of Tamilnadu, a bulk of India's silk apparel is produced by the people of this town. Mostly, handloom technique is used for weaving, though recently some have resorted to mechanized method. In India, Silk sarees are considered to be ornamental possessions.
