ARNist
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ARNists are described as "recombinant RNA artists". They are used in science fiction (most notably Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos and Illium]) as eccentric artistic scientists who use recombinant DNA techniques to resurrect long-dead animals. In addition to re-creating extinct species, ARNists often work as genetic 'plastic surgeons', changing and adapting their patients'/patrons' bodies to suit their desires (Martin Silenus' lengthy stint as a satyr, literally sporting goat legs and other 'endowments', was due to the work of an ARNist).
Readers of Hyperion will discover that the work of ARNists -- cosmetic and zoological -- is considered fairly commonplace in the Hyperion universe such that there is an actual verb -- 'ARNy' -- to describe the process of an ARNist's work.
