"Armalite" has also become a generic word for "assault rifle" or "machine gun."

7.62x39mm does NOT outrange 5.56x45mm. Not according to US Army field manuals, not according to FAS, not according to GlobalSecurity, and not Wiki's own entry on the weapons. Oh, and the Army had made no plans to use the M-14 as a squad automatic weapon. Why, M-14s have been getting back into army squads since 2004 or 2005. They are called squad MARKSMAN rifles.
