Armen Firman (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Armen Firman is an indie Australian rock group, who formed in 2002. Hailing from the country's south, the Melbourne band has developed a strong underground following as a result of their energetic live shows.

Featuring a sound based on melodic chordal riffs and lead guitar parts, their sound has been likened to Kashmir or early Radiohead, whom the band name as an influence.

The band is comprised of vocalist Tom Whitty and his brother Sam on guitar, Matt Millar on drums, James Saunders on bass and Rob Rambaldi on keyboards.

The band met at school in Wangaratta, Australia but base themselves in Melbourne. Originally performing under the name The Flight, the name change to Armen Firman occurred in 2005 when they also added their keyboardist.

In 2006 the band recorded a six track EP called 'Beggars and Choosers'. The tracklist for the EP was:

Fade Me 3.07 Come On 3.26 Break you gently 3.12 I feel it all 1.56 My Black Eyes 3.28 City Please 2.37

While 'Come On' received some national airplay, the band never officially released the EP. Instead, Armen Firman built a home studio, which was used to record their 3rd, as-yet-untitled EP. The first single 'Porch Dweller' sees bassist James Saunders sing lead vocals for the first time. It has received airplay on several radio stations and reached the top of the Indie charts in national radio broadcaster Triple J's Unearthed initiative.

Armen Firman also created a MySpace profile in mid 2006 which features a live video of 'My Black Eyes', the 5th track from the band's second EP, 'Beggars and Choosers'. See http://www.myspace.com/armenfirman

The band's only major performance for 2006 was at the Folk, Rhythm and Life Festival in their homestate of Victoria. See www.bilyana.com for festival details.

Their next show is on Australia Day the 26th of January 2007 at The Evelyn Hotel with supports The Razor Cartel and Chainmber Made.
