Armada Online is a sci-fi shooter video game, that plays almost like an Asteroids RPG. It currently features a PvP scenario where up to 8 players per team (two teams - factions) engage in combat with each other, team based allies, as well as the Armada aliens. The player(s) collect funds to buy power-ups for their ship, increasing speed, power, health, and adding a variety of powerful abilities, allowing them to defeat the Armada, set up space colonies and eventually defeat the other team's base. It also features the new "Delta 3" sector, where players join together against the Armada. In the Delta you can either join up in a group of up to 16 people, or freelance. The Delta also includes rich zones full of astroids and crystals for players to extract materials needed for crafting better technology.
All six races from the original Armada are present as well, each with their own unique ships. Each race offers specialized systems and performances, which allow for dramatically differing styles of play being equally effective.

[edit] Status

As of September 1, 2006, the game is currently in open alpha test.

[edit] Delta 3

On Oct 16, 2006, Mark unleashed the long-awaited Delta3 sector. This put the testers to work as they eagerly warped to the new map and were able to iron out a lot of the bugs. Here players were finally able to join the other races in the common fight against the Armada. Some new features that arrived at the same time include: Basic Item Crafting, Mining, Tier 2 Ships, New and Unique Armada, and a small hint of what can be expected of the future.

[edit] Background

In 2005, EvStream purchased the rights for Armada.
The EvStream team consist of members Mark Jordan and Roger Fang, game designers of the original Armada game.
