Arlington High School has an involved and adept fine arts programs. The Theatre Arts Department won the State Championship in UIL One-Act Play in 2005. Arlington High's play, AN EXPERIMENT WITH AN AIR PUMP, was chosen 1st place among over 250 other high schools in their conference. The orchestra program has won Sweepstakes at UIL (University Interscholastic League). The orchestra program has been receiving Sweepstakes since 1979. The band program has also consistently taken the Sweepstakes at UIL since a time interval in the 1980's and early 90's when Martin High School dominated the general area. In the 2005-2006 academic year, the band was the only in the city to take sweepstakes at UIL and in 2006 the band advanced to area competition. The Arlington High School Choir, Colt Chorale has also enjoyed much success within recent years, attending the prestigous Texas Music Educators Association Convention in 2005 and winning numerous Sweepstakes in UIL. On March 7, 2007 Colt Chorale will be singing at the American Chorale Directors Association Convention in Miami, Florida, which is the highest national honor that a choir can receive. It is likely that over 300 students will enroll in AHS' orchestra in the 2006-2007 school year. The choir has over 300 students; the band almost has 200: the theatre over 300.
