Arleston

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arleston is a hamlet to the south of the city of Derby in England. Its population is 9 and it is merely three or four houses clustered together surrounded by farmland. So far, despite many rumours, there are no residential developments to go ahead - Arleston is very close to the south of the urban sprawl.

[edit] Transport

Arleston Lane, a road through Sinfin narrows to become a track which leads off into the countryside. A small road leads off the left of Arleston Lane, this road leads to Arleston and continues to a major road about a kilometre away. There is no public transport in Arleston, although a canal and a railway pass nearby.

[edit] 2006 development rumours

At the start of 2006 there were the rumours about development which had been dreaded by residents of southern Derby and the citizens of Arleston (who are proud of their hamlet status) for years. But after thousands of complaints, many angry letters and several petitions, the rumours have stopped, although no official decision by South Derbyshire County Council has been made. The projected plans would see all the farmland built on and the tranquil hamlet which is currently nestled in peaceful farmland on the edge of the suburban housing would be slammed into the urban sprawl.

[edit] Television and radio coverage

All terrestrial channels can be picked up at Arleston, but these pictures are sometimes blurred, so a signal booster is sometimes necessary. Satellite television can be picked up, but cable cannot.

[edit] Electricity, water and gas

Power lines pass through Arleston and power cuts are rare, so there is no lack of power, and all the houses have running hot and cold water, although unfortunately there are no gas pipes to Arleston. There are still coal fires in Arleston because of its traditional farming history.
