Arkas (Αρκάς) is the nickname of a famous, although otherwise never seen Greek comics artist.
Arkas has seldom shown himself in artistic conventions, but generally avoids the public and appearing in TV shows or interviews. As is told, Arkas thinks that the artist must be known through his work, not through personal promotion.
His real name is also unknown. Arkas in Greek means 'Arcadian; someone from the province of Arcadia'. However the CamelCase style his name is written, implies that ArKas can also be only his initials.
In 1997 Arkas was asked to design the logo of Thessaloniki when the city became the European City of Culture for that year.
Arkas has been translated in other languages and has became known outside Greece. Translations of his books can be found in English, French, German, Romanian, Spanish, Portugues, Italian, Bulgarian, Polish and Serbian.
