The Arishan Elm Ulmus uyematsui is found only in the mountain forests of Taiwan, where it grows to a height of 25 m [1]. The bark is grey, and exfoliates in irregular flakes. The leaves are elliptic and largely glabrous, < 11 cm in length, borne on wingless branchlets. The petal-less, wind-pollinated flowers appear on second-year shoots in February, the obovate to orbicular samarae in March.

U. uyematsui is not known to be in cultivation in the West.
