Arik Air is a new airline based in Lagos, Nigeria that flies domestic routes throughout Nigeria starting in July 2006. Arik Air has taken ownership of the assets of the now defunct Nigerian Airlines Ltd. in Lagos. This includes the main Head Office Complex, and all ancillary buildings where it will base and maintain the airline's fleet.

The initial domestic network will cover the following cities: Abuja, Calabar, Enugu,Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Maiduguri, Port Harcourt, and Yola. Preparations are also underway to launch West Coast flights to Accra and Dakar.
In August 2006, the Federal Ministry of Aviation granted Arik Air authorization to fly to Trinidad and Tobago and Amsterdam, London, Madrid in Europe. Furthermore, the airline has received traffic rights to Atlanta, Birmingham, Miami, and Houston in the United States. These international routes to the US, UK and Far East will be introduced by 2008.

The fleet consists of two new CRJ 900s aircraft, three CRJ 200s aircraft built in 2003, two Boeing 737 built in 1990 and two Hawker Executive Jets 800XP. Arik Air has placed a firm order for a fourth Bombardier CRJ 900 to help with its expansion.
