Arifwala is a small town in the south east of Lahore nearly 210 km. In the south River Sutluj about 33 km. North Sahiwal is 45 km away. This area is called Neely Bar also. It is situated between Sutluj and Biayas. It is Tehsil Head quarter consisting 30 Union Councils. About 75% population live in villages and only 25% live in municipal urban area. Main occupation is agriculture Total population of Tehsil Arifwala is about 600,000.

In nineteenth century Arifwala was only a village named as chak No. 61/EB. Later, it was called Arifwala because of a landlord named "Arif" having Agriculture land in this village. In 1908, the Deputy Governor "Hurbert" founded new city of Arifwala. In 1987, Arifwala was raised to the status of sub-division and first it attached with District Sahiwal but in 1995 Prime minister of Pakistan Mian NAwaz Sharif attached it with Pakpattan district that is draw back for this little beautiful city.

The climate of the city is hot and dry. The summer season starts from April and continues till October. May, June and July are the hottest months. The mean maximum and minimum temperature of these months are about 42 and 28 degree centigrade respectively.
[edit] Politics of Arifwala
The politics of Arifwala has always revolved around a Rajput famliy belonging to several villages of Chak Medi kahan Union Council. These familes are inter-linked by bonds of blood and marriages. So politicans from Arifwala belonging to these families have represented Arifwala in Parliament since the British Government introduced the Parliamentary system in India.
Rana Nasurullah Khan was elected to Parliament in 1935 and Rana Abdul Hameed was elected to the Punjab Assembly in 1945 and was continuously re-elected till martial law was imposed and federal and provincal legislatures were dissolved. Rana Abdul Hameed was elected to the National Assembly in 1962 and later served as Federal Minister. Rana Khuadad (brother of Rana Abdul Hameed) also served as member of National Assembly two times.
In 1970 due to political rivalries between the famlies and outsider was elected to the parliament defeating both Rana Khuadad and Rana Zafarullah (brother of Rana Nasrullah). In 1970 Rana Mukhtar Ahmed, also from the same family, was elected to parliament from Faisalabad who was later stripped of his parliamentary membership after differences with then Prime Minister Z.A. Bhutto. In 1977 Raja Ahmed Saeed (also from same family) was elected to the Parliament after defeating Rana Zafarullah. During the martial law of General Ziaulhaq, Rana Khuadad, his son Rana Naeem Mehmood and Rana Waheed Kan (son of Rana Abdul Hameed) served as members of Majils-e-Shoora (Parliament of that time). Rana Naeem Mehmood also served as Chairman of District Council Sahiwal during the martial law. In 1985 Rana Naeem Mehmood was elected to the parliament and served as Minister of State for Defence.In 1985 Raja Sahid Saeed (son of Raja Ahmed Saeed) was also elected to parliament after defeating Rana Waheed Khan while Rana Zahid Hussain was elected Provincal Assembly. In 1988 Raja Sahid Saeed was re-elected to the parliament after defeating Rana Naeem Mehmood and Rana Zahid Hussain was re-elected to Provincal Assembly.
In 1990 Raja Sahid Saeed was re-elected again and served as Minister of State for Trade and Commerce. During this time Rana Zahid Hussain was elected as Chairman of District Council Sahiwal and later to Provincal Assembly in Bye Elections in 1991. In 1993 Raja Sahid Saeed was defeated. w Rana Zahid Hussain was elected to the National Assembly. Rana Ghulam Qadir (son of Rana Zafarullah) was elected to the provincal assmebly in 1993. In 1997 Raja Sahid Saeed and Rana Zahid Hussain were elected to the National Assembly and Rana Ghulam Qadir was elected to Provincal Assembly all by huge margins. During the military rule of General Mushuraf Raja Sahid Saeed switched his loyalities while Rana Zahid Hussain stayed with Nawaz Sharif.
In 2002 elections Rana Zahid Hussain was elected to the National Assembly by a landslide.He later resigned from National Assembly in 2005. In 2004 Sardar Wajid Khan (first cousin of Rana Mukhtar and Rana Zahid Hussain) was elected to Canadian House of Commons ans was re elected in 2006 In 2005 Local Bodies elections Candidates supported by Rana Zahid Hussain won a landslide victory in District Pakpattan. The contest of Teshil Nazim Arifwala a candidate supported by Rana Zahid Hussain defeated Raja Talayh Saeed (son of Raja Sahid Sahid) by a massive margin.
