Argentina is a country in South America. It has a continental area of 2,791,810 km² (excluding claims in Antarctica). It spreads 3,800 km from North to South—from 22º to 55º South. Argentina has borders with Uruguay, Brasil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile with a total border line 9,376 km long. The name Argentina comes from Latin "argentum", meaning "silver". The origin of this denomination dates back to the journeys of the first Spanish conquerors to the Río de la Plata. The present population is approximately 39 million inhabitants, mainly concentrated in the urban agglomerates of Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Rosario.
