Argumenty i fakty

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Argumenty i Fakty (Russian: "Аргументы и факты", commonly abbreviated "АиФ" - English: Arguments and Facts) is a weekly newspaper based in Moscow and a publishing house in Russia and worldwide.

According to its own claim [1], it used to have the largest circulation in the world. In 1990 it had a print run of 33.5 million and was entered in the Guinness book of records. It was founded in 1978 by the Russian organisation "Knowledge" («3нание») to provide propagandists with statistical and other hard-to-find information.

In 1980 AiF was transformed into a weekly but was not in wide circulation. It was available only by subscription to a closed circle of political 'spinners'. After 1985, it was one of the leading publications in the Glasnost campaign.
