Argonauts of St. Nicholas

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Argonauts of St. Nicholas were a military order of knights instituted by Charles III of Naples in 1382. They wore a collar of shells, enclosed in a silver crescent, on which hung a ship with the words Non credo tempori, "I don't trust time." From this they became known as the Knights of the Shell. They received the order of St. Basil, archbishop of Naples, and held their assemblies in the Church of St. Nicholas, their patron.
