Arekere

Arekere is a residential area on Bannerghatta Road in South Bangalore. The origin of the name "Arekere" comes comes from a water resorvoir which is close to the village.
Are in Kannada means half.
Kere in Kannada means a water resorvoir or pond.
The entire area has developed very fast since year 2000 due to large number of IT,BPO companies, and even hospitals like Apollo Hospitals and Wockhardt have come up nearby.IIM Bangalore is half a km from this area.
Some of the well developed residential areas in Arekere are, Arekere-Mico Layout which is a BDA layout and was developed in the late 70s, Pandurangnagar which is just adjacent to Mico layout.
There is a Mini Forest, Ganesh temple and a playground within Arekere-Mico Layout.
