Area code 604 is the telephone area code in British Columbia, Canada, encompassing the Lower Mainland region around Vancouver. It was formerly the area code for the whole province. In 1997, the region was split. Lower Mainland, as the province's major metropolitan area, maintained 604 while the rest of the province was moved to the new area code 250.
The 604 area code is also partially overlaid with area code 778 in the Lower Mainland (from Squamish to Chilliwack). The rest of the region covered by 604 is not part of the overlay.
