Area code 250

Area code 250 is an area code for most of the Canadian province of British Columbia, including Vancouver Island. It was created in 1997 as a split of Area code 604.
The projected exhaust date of area code 250 is set for January 2008. So far the relief option set aside is realigning the boundaries of area codes 604/778 so that area code 778 can be used as an overlay for the entire province, and sparing the need for another area code in the province for another 8 years. The problem that would arise though is in 8 years time a third area code would be needed to overlay which may cause customer confusion.
