Archbishop Brendan O'Brien

Archbishop Brendan M. O'Brien is the archbishop of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Archbishop O'Brien was born on September 28, 1943 in Ottawa. He attended the University of Ottawa and St. Paul University.
Archbishop O'Brien was ordained on June 1, 1968, and in 1971 he left to study in Rome for four years. Returning to his native land in 1975, he taught at St. Paul University. He became a pastor in 1984 and ordained as a bishop on June 29, 1987. He served as bishop of the diocese of Pembroke, Ontario, until he was appointed the Archbishop of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador on January 29, 2001.
He is the past president of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.
