Arcanum, Ohio

Arcanum is a village in Darke County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,076 at the 2000 census. The main rival for Arcanum High School is Franklin Monroe. The two towns used to battle in football until an injury at Franklin Monroe during a football game killed a student. Franklin Monroe dropped their football program, but remained rivals of Arcanum.

In 1992, a tornado ripped through Arcanum destoying parts of the town. The tornado made its path through the old downtown areas of Arcanum leaving the newer parts of Arcanum untouched.

Arcanum is located at GR1.

The Village of Arcanum is most commonly associated with it's flourishment of illegal drugs. There are attempts to lessen the onslaught of illegal activity, but so far all efforts have ended without any real results.

Dead Man's Path
Tucked away behind Ivester Park is an elusive trail spanning nearly 1.5 miles called "Dead Man's Path". The trail can also be used for four-wheeling.

If a craving for high-priced food with a taste reminiscent of nothing at all arises, this is your kind of place. Located beside Ben Franklin's, it's one of the pioneering businesses of Arcanum
Ivester Park
All the fun and excitement of staring at a brick, Ivester Park features an area just for the kids, and tables to eat on for a family picnic. Joy!
The Bowling Alley
All the fun of throwing things at other things and more! You can get a hot milkshake or some cold chicken strips as well.
Arcanum Old Fashioned Days
This is a festival held in downtown Arcanum on the original brick streets. The festival hosts a small carnival like setting with a car show and many other activities. The festival is usually held around the month of May.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,076 people, 853 households, and 603 families residing in the village. The population density was 691.0/km² (1,789.8/mi²). There were 891 housing units at an average density of 296.6/km² (768.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.75% White, 0.05% Native American, 0.19% Asian, and 1.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population.
There were 853 households out of which 34.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.9% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% were non-families. 25.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.92.
In the village the population was spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 89.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $42,649, and the median income for a family was $51,429. Males had a median income of $36,850 versus $21,597 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,597. About 2.5% of families and 3.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.0% of those under age 18 and 5.9% of those age 65 or over.
