Arbor View High School is a high school in northwestern Las Vegas, Nevada that opened in 2005. [1] It is part of the Clark County School District, in 2006 the fifth largest district in the United States. The school opened with 1,500 students, although it was designed for up to 2,700. As is typical in the district, the first year began without a senior class.
This High School was built at a cost of $54 million, with construction begun March 2005 and completed August 2005. At completion it formed the largest school in the district, with a campus area of 40 acres and four buildings with a total of 330,000 sq. ft. of floor space.[2] It is one of ten new schools opened in this school district in 2005, one of the fastest-growing school zones in the nation.[3]
Arbor View High School is an architectural prototype, featuring a mall-style design with four two-story corner "houses" and a shared central esplanade. The layout is intended to help foster the feeling of a "small school environment"[1], in the words of interim co-superintendent Walt Rulffes, even though it is by far the largest school in the history of the Clark County district. The structure is more energy-efficient than existing schools within the district.
The design for this school received a 2005 "AIA Nevada Excellence in Design Award" merit award for a completed structure.[4] The architecture was designed by the Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects.
