- 1947 – After a complete overhaul, Illinois Central's Green Diamond trainset re-enters active service, this time between Jackson, Mississippi, and New Orleans, Louisiana, as the Miss-Lou passenger train.
- 1970 – The first double-deck passenger cars to operate in regular service on Canadian passenger trains enter service in Montreal.[1]
- 1987 – Construction begins in Germany on the Berlin U-Bahn's U8 line extension to Paracelsus-Bad.
- 1998 – Spain's Madrid Metro opens the section between Esperanza and Mar de Cristal on Line 4.

- 2005 – Polgahawela level crossing collision: A bus reportedly carrying over 90 people through the town of Polgahawela, Sri Lanka, drives through the signals and barriers at a level crossing without checking first and is struck by an express train from Colombo to Kandy.
