Apistoloricaria[1] is a genus of freshwater fish in the Loricariidae family of order Siluriformes. The type species is Apistoloricaria condei.
They are native to South America, found in river basins of the upper Amazon.
Typical size is less than 14 cm. This genus contains long slender members, the papillae around the mouth are well developed and show considerable lateral extension. In these respects this genus superficially resembles the Whiptails (genus Rineloricaria).
The genus name comes from the Greek apisto meaning uncertain and the Latin lorica or loricare meaning cuirass or corslet of leather.
